A federal court granted partner Talmage Newton’s motion for a sentencing reduction based on a change in the federal criminal law mandated by a recent U.S. Supreme Court case (U.S. v Taylor). After litigating the post-conviction relief motion, Talmage was able to have one of the client’s convictions vacated and at resentencing the Court reduced the client’s sentence from 147-months to 107-months, which will have the client reunited with his family 3+ years sooner.
